On May 2nd, 1841 the Rev. Thos. Christie of West Flamborough preached and organized a congregation of 24 members. It wasn't until Dec. 7th, 1842 that the congregation ordained its first minister Rev. J. Porteous who received a stipend of 80 pounds per year. You can view images of Knox's Ministers over the years.

After worshipping in Grantham Academy, the congregation constructed a small brick church on Centre St., which seated 300. The first service was held in June 1844. After feeling the need for a larger building, the congregation constructed the present-day church in 1860 at a cost of $ 6000. An addition was added in 1874 at a cost of $ 5000. The first public worship was held on May 20th, 1860.

In 1919, the building was enlarged to its present size and a new Casavant organ was purchased for $ 10,292.00. Church calendars were introduced a year later. In 1925, the question of union with the Methodist Church and Congregational Churches to form the United Church of Canada was defeated by Knox and it chose to remain a Presbyterian Church.

In 1954, land at a cost of $ 50,000 was purchased next door to Knox Church for the construction of the Christian Education building. Construction was completed on October 31, 1956 at a cost of $ 115,000. Church school enrolment rose to a level of 435. In 1967 Knox underwent major renovations again with new lighting and pews being installed.

It wasn't until 1875, at the annual meeting, that the congregation chose a name for itself--Knox Church. Hymnals were introduced to Knox Church in 1886 and three years later an organ with a water motor was purchased at a cost of $ 2,600.

1892 marked the 25th anniversary of the induction of Rev. George Burson, Knox's longest serving Minister and as a way of celebrating the occasion a manse was purchased on Church St. In 1900, a complete renovation of the church was made by installing new windows, removing galleries, and reseating the Church Sanctuary
